CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., May 27, 2008 — Spartech Plastics of Cape Girardeau, Mo., recently made a donation to Southeast Missouri State University for the purchase of a low power optical microscope and surface analysis system.
Dr. Ragu Athinarayanan, chair of the Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology, said, “We would like to thank Spartech for their generosity to our program. Thanks to their commitment to our program, our laboratory classroom instruction will be greatly enhanced, and students will be even better prepared for entering the industrial workforce.”
Dr. Greg Boyd, Associate Professor in Manufacturing said, “This system will be used primarily for laboratory classroom instruction, allowing students to inspect ultrasonic welding flow lines, measure bonding layer penetration and analyze surface finish for virtually any material including ceramics, metals and plastics. Spartech has been working with the University since 2003 in analyzing surface imperfections and composite layer thickness control for sheet molded goods.”
“Spartech has and continues to be a strong supporter of the Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology by providing internship opportunities for our students, jobs for our graduates, and their service on the department’s Industrial Advisory Committee,” Athinarayanan said. “We very much appreciate their generosity.”
