CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 18, 2016 – More than 150 area employers are registered to meet Southeast Missouri State University students of all majors and Southeast alumni at the spring 2016 Career and Internship Fair Feb. 25 in the Student Recreation Center-North.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Students and alumni interested in exploring internships or career and job opportunities will be able to meet people from organizations directly related to their field of study.
Organizations planning to attend the fair represent a local, regional, national and international spectrum, including the Saint Francis Medical Center, SoutheastHEALTH, BUNZL Distribution, U.S. Secret Service, AT&T, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Buchheit, Inc., Illinois State Police, Missouri State Highway Patrol, River Radio, and over 15 public school districts and educational organizations. This will give students from each major the chance to meet someone in their respective field. A complete, updated list can be found on the Career Services website at http://www.semo.edu/pdf/careers-internship_fair_attending_employers.pdf.
“It is never too early for students to begin thinking about life after college,” said Dan Presson, employer relations coordinator in Southeast’s Career Services. “There is something for every major, and students of all ages are encouraged to come prepared to engage with potential employers.”
Students and alumni who attend the fair are encouraged to dress professionally, bring an updated copy of their resume and research each company they plan to visit ahead of time.
“Making a great first impression is essential by presenting yourself in a professional manner, in professional dress with a strong resume,” said Presson. “Students should also plan to attend the fair early in their education so they can build connections and hone their ability to speak with potential employers.”
According to Career Services, professional dress consists of a dress shirt, tie, slacks, dress shoes and socks for men. For women the preferred dress is a dress blouse (nothing low cut, tight or that shows midriff), jackets/twin sweater sets, modest length skirts, dresses, pant suits and dress shoes. If students do not have these particular garments, collared shirts, khaki pants and dress shoes are acceptable.
Students and alumni, even if they are unable to attend the fair, are encouraged to upload their resume to www.redhawkjobs.com where employers will be able to view students’ resumes both before and after the event.
