Experience the thrilling and entertaining performances of The Conservatory of Theatre and Dance’s annual “Spring into Dance,” at 7:30 p.m. April 4-7, 10 a.m. April 6 and 2 p.m. April 8 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.
For the first time, this year’s event will feature aerial dance in two pieces by Hilary Peterson, coordinator of dance, and Lauren K. Jones, adjunct faculty member. Aerial dance is performed on pieces of apparatus that are suspended in the air. Dancers manipulate the apparatus creating beautiful shapes and stunning movement sequences.
“We are extremely excited to bring aerial dance to the Bedell stage, and it is certainly going to be an audience favorite,” stated Hilary Peterson, associate professor and coordinator of dance.
The concert will also highlight original contemporary dance work by athletic choreographer Taylor Mitchell.
“Taylor Mitchell’s work will entertain audiences and make them laugh,” said Peterson, also an associate professor.
Mitchell is a Chicago-based dance artist who performs, choreographs and teaches across the United States and throughout Europe. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance from the University of Arizona, where he received the Creative Achievement Award for numerous works of choreography. His professional choreography credits include DanceWorks Chicago, Thodos Dance Chicago, Dance In The Parks, and Level Dance and the Kieler-Woche Festival in Kiel, Germany.
Original faculty dance works showcased in the concert will include a high-octane, contemporary duet by Philip Edgecombe and an energetic, contemporary ballet by Alyssa Alger.
