Experience the exciting performances of The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance’s annual “Spring into Dance,” at 7:30 p.m. April 8-10 and April 11 at 2 p.m. in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.

Face coverings will be required, and social distancing guidelines will be in place.

Always offering something special, “Spring into Dance” will feature an original dance work by nationally recognized choreographer, Joshua Blake Carter.

“Carter’s work is exciting, energetic and thought-provoking.  Audiences will be moved by his combination of movement and narrative that flows seamlessly together,” said Hilary Peterson, associate professor and coordinator of dance.

Carter is a graduate of the University of Arizona and danced for seven seasons with Giordano Dance Chicago. He now acts as operations manager for the company and as artistic director for Giordano II. Carter’s choreography has been celebrated nationally with numerous awards and he was nominated for a 2019 Broadway World Award for Best Choreography for his work on Disney’s “Newsies” at the Paramount Theatre. His work has been commissioned by several dance companies including Missouri Contemporary Ballet, Nomi Dance Company, Visceral Dance Chicago, Artifact Dance Project and the Joffrey Ballet.

The concert will also showcase a variety of original works by select Southeast student and faculty choreographers including a classical ballet to end the program.

“The work of our faculty and student choreographers continues to amaze and audiences will again be delighted with the variety of dance styles and talents of our dancers,” Peterson stated.
