Join Southeast’s Campus Violence Prevention Program and Counseling and Disability Services for an interactive Step UP! training from 10:30 a.m.-noon on Sept. 1 in the University Center Indian Room. This training is for staff, faculty and student leaders. Step UP! is a prosocial behavior and bystander intervention program that is effective in the prevention of interpersonal violence. During this training, participants will develop skills to engage students in the five steps of intervention; practice scenarios relevant to the university setting; gain confidence to guide students to campus resources; and score Step UP! swag.
Throughout September, the Step UP! Team will be acting out scenarios and videotaping students’ responses. Students “caught” being an effective bystander can score T-shirts, gift cards and more. Step UP! received a NASPA Gold Award and recently was ranked as ‘Best Practice’ by the NCAA Sports Science Institute of national and international scholars.
