Students in RC405 “Trends and Issues in Recreation and Leisure” rolled up their sleeves Tuesday night to assist with sandbagging efforts at Red Star Baptist Church.
“The students did a great job,” said Dr. Tom Holman, professor of health, human performance and recreation, who teaches the class. “One hundred years from now, it won’t matter what we did in class” but making a contribution to the community will stick with these students.
The Salvation Army is spearheading the sandbagging efforts at the church in downtown Cape Girardeau near the Mississippi River where the river is expected to crest at 48.5 feet this weekend, just four inches below the record.
Members of the Southeast Missouri State University football team also assisted with sandbagging efforts today, May 3, at Red Star Baptist Church.
