CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 2, 2005 — The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Music will present a jazz concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 18 in the University Center Ballroom on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.
This annual fall jazz concert will feature both jazz ensembles: the Jazz Lab band and Southeast’s premier jazz ensemble, Studio Jazz. The Jazz Lab band will perform compositions by Count Basie, Quincy Jones, and Sammy Nestico. Their program will include “Killer Joe” as performed by the Quincy Jones band and will feature several members of the band as soloists.
Studio Jazz will perform compositions by Billy Byers, Bob Florence, Gordon Goodwin and Matt Catingub. Included in the program will be “Phil, Not Bill” as recorded by the Rob McConnell big band and “All of Me” as recorded by the Count Basie big band. Featured soloists will include Sara Parks on trumpet, Michael Harrer on alto saxophone and Vincent Rapini on trombone as well as several other members of the band. Both groups are lead by the associate director of bands at Southeast, Robert Conger.
