The Southeast Missouri State University jazz program will present their fall jazz concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in Academic Auditorium. Both the Studio Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Lab band will perform.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 11, 2006 — The Southeast Missouri State University jazz program will present their fall jazz concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in Academic Auditorium.
Both the Studio Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Lab band will perform and will be directed by Robert Conger, a professor in the Southeast Department of Music. Recent University of Missouri-Kansas City graduate Clint Ashlock will be featured as a trumpet soloist on this concert with both bands.
Opening the program will be the Jazz Lab Band. This non-auditioned group will perform some well known compositions by the Count Basie Orchestra including “One O’ Clock Jump” and “Corner Pocket.” Among the soloists with the Lab Band will be Chris Aarns, junior law enforcement major from Creve Coeur, Mo.; Mako Ishida, sophomore from Japan; and Christa Szabo, freshman music major from Branson.
Southeast’s premier jazz ensemble, Studio Jazz, will perform two original compositions by Gordon Goodwin including “Mueva Los Huesos” and the swinging “Count Bubba” which features each section of the group. Also included will be compositions by Frank Foster and Neal Finn. Featured soloists will include Michael Harrer (sax), junior music education major from St. Louis; Zach Priester (guitar), freshman music major from Jackson, Mo.; Andrew Mitchell (tenor sax), freshman music major from House Springs, Mo.; and Jay Peters (trombone), a junior music education major from Festus, Mo.
