CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Jan. 23, 2014 – The Dwain and Susan Hahs Endowed Scholarship has been established through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation. Dwain and Susan Hahs of Jackson, Mo., made a $10,000 gift to establish the scholarship. Their gift will be matched with an additional $10,000 match through a University matching gift program.
The matching gift program is part of the Honoring Tradition – Inspiring Success Comprehensive Campaign through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation. This program allows donors to make a minimum commitment of $5,000 to a maximum commitment of $10,000 through donation or pledge by March 1, 2014, that will qualify for a $1-for-$1 match. The goal of the Campaign is to raise $40 million for student scholarships, academic programs and renovations that benefit students both today and tomorrow.
The renewable Dwain and Susan Hahs Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to a Southeast student from the Jackson, Mo., or Oak Ridge, Mo., school districts majoring in international studies. Second preference will be given to a student majoring in international studies. Recipients must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average and demonstrate financial need. The Donald L. Harrison College of Business Scholarship Committee will select the recipient.
Mr. Hahs is a 1974 graduate of Southeast with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in marketing. He has served as chair of the University Foundation Board of Directors, is co-chair of the University Foundation’s Honoring Tradition-Inspiring Success Comprehensive Campaign, and is a former Alumni Merit Award recipient. He serves as an adjunct professor in the MBA program in the Donald L. Harrison College of Business. Mr. Hahs retired from Bausch and Lomb after 33 years in international business. He held positions in sales, marking and global operations as president of international, president of consumer products including the Rayban sunglass business, corporate senior vice president, and president of Europe and Asia. He and his wife, Susan, have lived in Canada, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.
Mrs. Hahs began her nursing education degree at Southeast before graduating from Mt. Carmel School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. The couple has two children and currently resides in Jackson, Mo.
