COMMrades and Lambda Pi Eta at Southeast Missouri State University will host a Santa Express Christmas Train on the St. Louis Iron Mountain and Southern Railway in Jackson, Missouri, on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
The train will board at 6 p.m. at 252 E. Jackson Blvd. in Jackson and return at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for children ages 2 to 12, and $20 for children and adults ages 12 and up. Tickets may be purchased from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday in the Department of Communication Studies office in Academic Hall, Room 213. Offices are closed Nov. 24-25 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
“Children young and old cheer when Santa lands his sleigh on the train and comes inside with Mrs. Claus!” said Jeanne Harris, instructor of communication studies at Southeast. “Each child has the opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap and talk to him, and the entire train plays games and sings Christmas carols.”
Before returning to the North Pole, Santa will read the “Polar Express” to the entire train while the children gather around him. Homemade treats and hot cocoa will be available for purchase on the train. Children are invited to dress in their pajamas and to bring their lists for Santa to review.
Proceeds from the holiday event go to support COMMrades and Lambda Pi Eta, non-profit, student organizations housed in Southeast’s Department of Communication Studies.
“The Santa Express is such a sweet annual tradition for area families!” Harris said. “This year marks our second time chartering the train as a scholarship fund raiser. It is meant to be a benefit for our student organizations, but we feel honored to be able to offer this family event to our campus community.”
