University Center Issues Lost and Found Guidance

Campus Life and Event Services has the following policies and information for those who are looking for a lost item, or needing to report a found item in the University Center (UC).

ID cards can be turned in or claimed in the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) on the second floor 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday. A small black drop box, near the mailboxes outside the CSI, will be placed in the upcoming days if an ID card is found and needs to be returned outside these hours.

All other items, including backpacks, wallets, phones, keys, credit cards, coats, umbrellas, etc., should be returned and claimed at Campus Life and Event Services in the UC Room 414. When turning an item in, please include when and where the item was found. Efforts will be made to return the item to the rightful owner, including contacting the event host if the item was found in a room after an event to see if attendees can be contacted; by searching the item for the owner’s identity and making contact with them; or waiting for the owner to voluntarily claim the item.

Items that are of higher value, including phones, wallets, credit cards, etc., will be secured in a safe for up to 48 hours and then turned over to the Department of Public Safety (DPS).

All items are typically held for a semester. If an item is not claimed and contains personal identification, they are sent to DPS. Items such as hats, backpacks, etc., that are in good condition are donated to local area non-profits or charity stores. Food containers and water bottles are kept for approximately a three-day period if they are relatively clean, however they are disposed of if they are unable to be cleaned for short-term safe storage.

The University Center and its staff does not take responsibility for maintaining or replacing items that are lost and found within the UC. Staff will do their best to return items to the rightful owner.

If an item is being claimed, the claimant must give a description of the item and present photo identification before the item is returned.
