Southeast President Carlos Vargas recently presented seven Southeast Shout-Out Awards.
Congratulations to John Buchheit of the Department of Public Safety; Julie Grueneberg, assistant registrar; Ann Hayes, News Bureau director; Laurie Overmann, instructor of mathematics; Marge Phillips, Center for Writing Excellence administrative assistant and writing associate; Jeremy Thompson, Center for Writing Excellence writing associate; and Amanda Woods, Office of Military and Veterans Services outreach coordinator.
Buchheit was nominated by several students for his positive attitude, outstanding customer service and gifts of candy canes and handmade reindeer during the stressful finals week of the fall 2016 semester.
Grueneberg was nominated by Dr. Julie Ray, chair of the Department of Elementary, Early and Special Education, for her outstanding
customer service to students and her fellow colleagues and her dedication to high standards and attention to details.
Hayes was nominated by Rhonda Weller-Stilson, associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and director of the Earl and Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts, for her daily production of news releases and stories, ability to handle media calls and serve as an expert spokesperson, as well as being one of the kindest colleagues at the University.
Overmann was nominated by Southeast student Haley Thogmartin for being a great, outstanding teacher and having the heart and desire to help people in anyway possible.
Phillips and Thompson were nominated by a newly enrolled non-traditional student for their prompt professionalism and assistance in answering questions pertaining to a writing exam.
Woods was nominated by Chelsea Caile, director of Southeast Online Programs, for her outstanding customer service, ability to break down barriers to make the impossible possible for veteran students, and student-centered approach to everything she does.
Southeast Shout-Out awards celebrate University employees who put forth the extra effort to help, challenge and inspire students, and do whatever it takes to get the job done while encouraging others along the way.
