CAPE GIRARDEAU, March 1, 2016 — Visiting artist Craig Burkhalter of Macon, Georgia will present two participatory demonstrations March 4 at Southeast Missouri State University’s Catapult Creative House, 612 Broadway in downtown Cape Girardeau.
Burkhalter will be printing an artist’s chapbook of poetry by Georgia author Seaborn Jones using Catapult’s wood and lead type collection. The demonstrations are scheduled for 10a.m.-12:30 p.m. and during First Friday Openings from 5-9 p.m. in Catapult’s Letterpress Studio.
Burkhalter was a visual art high school and college educator for 30 years. He works in many media including collage, painting, book arts, and printmaking. Letterpress is incorporated into his work in experimental ways, and his techniques will be an excellent jumping off point for those with anything from a casual interest in letterpress to those wishing to work across media with the repeatable image.
In addition to the interactive demonstrations, the artist also will present an artist talk at 6 p.m. March 3 in the classroom at Catapult Creative House.
Please RSVP for the free Friday morning demonstration or drop by the first Friday events. Email Hannah Sanders at email@example.com or Leah Powers at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions and to RSVP.
