Visiting Japanese Scholar to Lecture on Faulkner’s Hollywood Related Work


Southeast Missouri State University’s Center for Faulkner Studies will host a lecture by Dr. Yukihiro Tsukada, the 2015 BioKyowa Visiting Japanese Scholar, on Wednesday, Nov. 11 that will focus on William’s Faulkner’s work in connection with Hollywood. The lecture, entitled “William Faulkner, Hollywood, and the Gothic South,” is free to the public and will be at 4 p.m. in the 3rd floor reading room of Kent Library.

Dr. Yukihiro Tsukada was formerly full professor at the National Defense Academy of Japan and is now full professor at Kwansei Gakuin University. Tsukada is the author of Cinema and Gender. He has edited three books, two of which focus on cinema. Tsukada has had numerous articles published on both American literature and cinema.

BioKyowa, Inc., sponsors a Visiting Japanese Scholar Program that brings one Japanese scholar each year to the Southeast campus to conduct research in the Brodsky Collection and to participate in various types of cultural exchanges. The BioKyowa Visiting Japanese Scholar Program is designed to honor the special relationship that Faulkner developed with citizens of Japan during an official visit to the country on behalf of the U.S. Department of State in 1955.
