Southeast Missouri State University invites its students, alumni, faculty and staff to exhibit the “We Are One” spirit and participate in #GivingTuesday, Nov. 28, in an effort to raise $10,000 to create a need-based scholarship for a Southeast student.
This will be the second year Southeast has participated in #GivingTuesday, a day of giving during the holiday season that follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday. On Nov. 28, the University will launch a one-day campaign via social media (#SEMOGivesBack), email, phone and campus events inviting participants to give $10 to establish the “We are One” scholarship.
Last year, Southeast’s #GivingTuesday effort surpassed its $5,000 goal, raising $11,160.30 from more than 330 individuals and three matching gifts in just one day. The generosity of the Southeast community created not one, but two “We are One” scholarships.
Donors can give online at semo.edu/givingtuesday and via text, by texting “SEMO” to 56512, which will prompt a giving text with instructions. Annual Fund student representatives from the Southeast Missouri University Foundation will also be on campus to collect donations.
“Thank you to all those who helped make #GivingTuesday a success last year. We look forward to another successful #GivingTuesday in 2017,” said Bill Holland, vice president for University Advancement and executive director of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation. “There is nothing more impactful than an education. #GivingTuesday makes this a little easier for a student to attain.”
