Southeast Missouri State University welcomes its newest and returning Redhawks for the 2020-2021 academic year with Opening Week festivities designed to engage the campus community in a wide array of opportunities.
Everyone is encouraged to download the Southeast app to see Southeast’s “Engage in 8!” activities, a complete listing of events offered on campus during the first eight weeks of the semester.
As the campus kicks-off the start of a great fall semester, face coverings will be required and social distancing guidelines will be in place to maintain the health and safety of the campus community.

Aug. 22, 3 p.m., semo.edu/welcome
Jump start the fall semester with University President Carlos Vargas, Student Government President Logan Phillip and other special guests in this virtual signature Opening Week event. Watch from the comfort of your room or home at semo.edu/welcome. Limited spaces are available at socially distance watch parties in Academic Hall Auditorium, Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast’s River Campus, Glenn Auditorium in Dempster Hall and the University Center Ballroom.
Ice Cream Pig Out
Aug. 22, 4 p.m., University Center/Kent Library; River Campus Quad; Brandt Hall/Parker Field
Enjoy one of Southeast’s oldest traditions with the annual ice cream pig out. Grab a cool treat and meet Student Government Senators and Executive Board.
Make Your Mark
Aug. 23, Noon-5 p.m., Academic Hall Grounds
New Southeast students are invited to share what they plan to do while at Southeast and sign their name on the “Will To Do Walkway,” located on the sidewalks surrounding Academic Hall. Date or time subject to change based on weather conditions.
Aug. 23, 1 and 2 p.m., Stroup Fountain/Kent Library Lawn
Opening Week Leaders will offer campus tours for students unsure of where their classes are located. Students should bring their class schedules with them.
Welcome Back Tents
Aug. 24-25, 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Faculty and staff can help welcome incoming and returning students at Welcome Back Tents stationed at various campus locations, offering students a map, water and snacks before heading to class.
